Beehero.io’s Business Model and Innovation
The pollination technology platform developed by BeeHero is meant to increase agricultural yields through beehives. Pollination services provided by the corporation are critical to the world’s agriculture, as many of the foods we eat are dependent on them.
Pesticides, parasites, contaminants in the environment, and even global warming have all put a strain on them in recent years. Remote sensing and predictive analytics allow us to safeguard better and care for our tiny farmers.
BeeHero uses advanced machine learning algorithms and low-cost sensors to optimize pollination at the height of the pollination season to increase agricultural yields. BeeHero’s real-time surveillance and pollination optimization assure highly efficient pollinators that may enhance crops by 30 percent on average.
Founded in California, BeeHero is the world’s largest database of bees and pollination, functioning worldwide. The firm has gained a foothold in collaborating with farmers and industry associations, such as the world’s largest almond producers association.
To collect data from within the hive and the surrounding environment, the company gives sensors to beekeepers. BeeHero’s algorithms are then used to forecast the health of a beehive based on the collected data.
To construct a recursive natural network, the system uses machine-learning methods. It considers three types of inputs: the status of the hive, environmental factors, and the expertise of the professional beekeeper.
How BeeHero Started
2017: BeeHero was formed in 2017 at IDC University near Tel Aviv in an exclusive entrepreneurship program. Beginning with only a few beehives, BeeHero’s global expansion has taken it from Tel Aviv and Palo Alto to Europe and the United States, with offices in both countries.
An interview with the company’s owner revealed that they struggled to grow with their prior solutions, so they were delighted to find partners like Soracom. Following initial contact with several firms, BeeHero could begin testing on the ground within 48 hours and quickly realized that these partners placed the customer’s needs above everything else.
Omer Davidi and his colleagues are thrilled to work with a partner who feels like a part of the team in a fast-paced atmosphere with many changing components. Protecting a critical link in the global food supply chain was one of the concerns that Omar identified after researching the existing situation of the sector.
Major Contribution
As previously stated, bee pollination is required by more than 70% of all human food crops. As a result, bees play a critical role in ensuring the safety of the world’s food supply. Bee populations across the globe are in jeopardy. It has been estimated that 40% of bee colonies perish each year due to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), first diagnosed in 2006.
Commercial beekeepers have instruments at their disposal to manage the most significant issues impacting their colonies. Still, these tools only function if the beekeepers can identify the problem before it gets out of hand. Consequently, Omar and his colleagues developed new technologies and fresh data to assist.
It’s possible to anticipate beehive diseases before they might harm the colony because of BeeHero’s low-cost sensors and algorithms that use over 25 distinct variables from the hive. Colony health, brood sickness, mite activity, and even the existence of a queen or the likelihood of a colony collapse are all indicators to look out for. On the other hand, complex machine learning methods need a significant number of high-quality training data.
To fill up the gaps, BeeHero teamed up with commercial beekeepers in Israel and the United States, who collectively account for 25 percent of the country’s working bee population. Beekeepers may now minimize the mortality rate of their hives with the aid of BeeHero’s bespoke sensor systems and sophisticated diagnostics.
The hive’s health and pollination quality are also greatly improved by using these products. Commercial beekeepers, worker bees, and farmers will immediately profit from this approach.
Meet the BeeHero Team
Omer Davidi, Itai Kanot, Yuval Regev, and Michal Roizman make up the BeeHero team. Company founder and owner Omer Davidi is well-known as a successful venture capitalist with a wealth of technological expertise and commercial acumen.
Since bees are integral to contemporary agriculture, Itai Kanot is well versed in this field. At the same time, Yuval Regev has more than seven years of elite-unit duty with Israeli intelligence under his belt, making him a well-rounded beekeeper. Meanwhile, Michal Roizman is an experienced product manager who has worked with multinational electronics firms.
